Best Lines

Amanda: "What the samhill do you think you are doing?"

Lee: "Well, guns are being smuggled from the United States to guerillas in Central America. A lot of people are getting killed. We want to know where those guns are coming from."
Amanda: "Oh, that sounds right up my alley."

Lee: “Where in my contract does it say that I have to make daiquiris? I hate this. I want a divorce.”

And now... episode bloopers from Katie "The Continuity Queen"

1. I wonder who Shane and Lopez are to the production staff. Their names have been called in both eps so far over the PA system in the agency hallway. Both times I believe they are supposed to report to communications. Anyone have CBS tapes? Look at the credits and see if you see those names.

2. I'm putting your department on it effective immediately. That’s what Billy tells Lee. My question is… what department? I assumed until he got the Q.B., that he worked as just another (albeit great) agent under Billy.

3. If she came to give him the background packet for their files shouldn't she give it to him? She shoves him in the elevator and keeps the clipboard. Just love how she turns the conversation though.

4. Watch for Col. Minsk as Fran and her driver (why does she have a driver) go through the Betsy Ross Estates. Remember the colonel? The one the bad guy looked like in No Thanks for the Memory. He lived there.

5. Is Betty about?

6. Ok, this interview is clearly before the days of sexual harassment laws. Why would she want to work for such a creep? I'd be thanking Lee for getting me out of there.

7. Good thing she told him where she was going. I like that he actually listens to her amandarambles. Baby Cakes... Pookey Face…Timmy, Tammy and Tommy and then his little good-bye at the end. Rolling every time.

8. Notice how they walk on the "Don't Walk" sign. It’s an orange hand; doesn't that usually mean don't? I do the same thing, so I can't really say anything. I make my mom cross against lights too IF I can cross w/o getting hit. She swears if she gets hit doing that she's gonna come back and haunt all crosswalks I use. Moms.

9. This one is for future reference. In The Artful Dodger Allan has a photo he shows someone of Amanda. It’s from this ep when they are talking on the street corner. She is standing outside in a blue blouse with a gray jacket. See, he did do his homework. He was following her even then (that's ep #17). Not sure what that says about the agency's security though.

10. So how come the baddies are just now getting around to dumping the body? Frank expected her back 18 hours ago and that was late this morning. It has to be like 30 hours now.

11. I'd forgotten how much of a smart alec she is in the first season. Just love the little under-her-breath comments and remarks to Lee. Too funny. Oh that sounds right up my alley. Yeah. Love his face at her comment.

12. So did the plans change? With the kids it sounds like she's gonna be home tonight. Something about going over someone's homework. Yet later we know she spends the night at the other house. If the boys didn't have a sleepover would she have stayed? What did she tell her mother when she did stay? Questions, questions.

13. Speaking of questions. If your spouse were missing for over a day would you go to a party? Even if your neighbors dragged you? Or make something for the party (He's carrying something.)? And what about the neighbors? They’d have known her too. They don't seem that upset that she's missing.

14. Love how he strikes a pose when the neighbors start to come in. I can just hear him say in this best Freddie Washington (WB Kotter) imitation "Hi there." And don't you just feel for him? All the work it must be to make those daiquiris? Probrecito. Where in my contract does it say that I have to make daiquiris? I hate this assignment. I want a divorce. Anyone got any cheese for that whine? And the best is she ignores him completely. Just reassures him, rolls her eyes and leaves.

15. "Mr. Bodin, I'm afraid we found your wife's body." Wait 10 seconds for next scene. "Well, they haven't found the body." Wonder who his source is. Certainly not the most up-to-date info.

16. Pax! or whoever does it! Agh! The 2 scenes I remember are: 1. Arguing about getting the bed that night. Lee wants to nap until they break-in at the Bodines. He wins because he's the senior agent. 2. Falls later in the ep. Amanda and Dottie are at the grocery store unloading the cart when Harriet comes up and starts talking to her about what happened to the Bodines. Amanda just kinda listens and nods. When she leaves Amanda looks at Dottie, who is very curious and makes some excuse of being the wrong person. Very funny. Darn cutters whoever you are.

17. When Amanda yells Lee's name we flash to him outside. What's he doing outside? He was upstairs last time we saw him. He make a wrong turn? Do like his improv skills. The flamingo thing can be an effective weapon if used properly; at least according to the field manual on weapons.

18. Is she blind? How can she not tell that picture is hung crooked?

19. Love the awkwardness at the end of the kitchen scene. And mark your calendars, Lee gave her a compliment for solving the case. Won’t happen again for a season or so. That she hears. Notice though… HE recognizes their first fight, He asks about dinner, HE noticed the curtains and HE defends his "normal" way too much. Think something is brewing in the back of his mind?

20. He will come to respect/enjoy these words of insult now: I've got a lot of respect for the generosity and stamina of the American housewife. Too bad it takes him 3 years to appreciate those words.

21. Love her face when they reveal the gate circle thing. Says- you actually have a gateway to walk through? The song wasn't bad enough? Wow, you people need help. What is the matter with these women? Can’t they see she is being dragged through the golden circle thing? And how about the jumping purse? It goes from shoulder to hand and back to shoulder as she's being dragged in.

22. Wonder how long the other new golden circle girls wait for Bobby to make his appearance at their special meeting. Hope someone told them, otherwise they may still be there.

23. Borrow a cup of sugar? At 3 am? I realize you’re under pressure and this is new to you, but sugar? At 3 am?

24. Pesky car door. Notice first how hard it is for Lee to get out of the Porsche (as he meets Harriet looking for Amanda) and then watch the door. He slams so hard it pops back open and then closes. Doesn’t know his own strength, I guess.

25. Oh, they have the eye connection- “no words needed” thing down right from the start. They are able to read and play off each other right away. She even understands she needs to create some kind of distraction for him. Very cool.

26. Just love seeing the natural hand connection -notice their hands seem to find each other naturally- from the beginning. The whole time they are being chased he holds her hand and when they are crunched down his arm is around her shoulder. As they are running out of the room, up and down the stairs and everywhere, each time they disconnect to check a door they immediately reconnect as soon as possible. Too cute. Also very cool.

27. She is too funny. Love how she keeps checking and looking at the ball thing they rode down. Doesn’t he need to be at the scene to tell everyone stuff? And even if they know what needs to be known, doesn't he need to give a statement or be debriefed or something? I wouldn't think he could just walk away. And where are they going anyway? Both their cars would be parked back there.

28. Curious as to what Dotty is working on in the tag. It looks like a radio or a sewing machine. Better yet, is it a beauty appliance? A hair dryer or roller heater? Major kudos to that writer if it is. Your thoughts…

29. Ok, I think I have it figured out. “Good” they all cry. Finally someone does. Want to know what I figured out? Too bad, my post I'm gonna tell ya anyway. The moment she leans on the counter before making the call to Dean is when I believe she has decided her fate. Something about how non-excited she is about making the call, how she says mother, how she looks like she is elsewhere in her mind. All this says to me she knows in her heart it’s not Dean. She's seen too much. She can't go back to that life. It’s not love, but it is a change. His car ride is also very telling. While it’s not the moment that she is having, he is thinking about her some hours later, pondering the ring, the normal life, the assignment, her. Maybe somewhere in the back of his heart he too has decided his fate. A change for him too.

Special thanks to Katie for all of the time and hard work she has put into these Continuity Queen posts!

The Song You Hear Playing

Subdivisions
Rush

Sprawling on the fringes of the city
In geometric order
An insulated border In between the bright lights
And the far unlit unknown

Growing up it all seems so one-sided
Opinions all provided
The future pre-decided
Detached and subdivided
In the mass production zone

Nowhere is the dreamer or the misfit so alone

Subdivisions --
In the high school halls
In the shopping malls
Conform or be cast out
Subdivisions --
In the basement bars
In the backs of cars
Be cool or be cast out
Any escape might help to smooth
The unattractive truth
But the suburbs have no charms to soothe
The restless dreams of youth

Drawn like moths we drift into the city
The timeless old attraction
Cruising for the action
Lit up like a firefly
Just to feel the living night

Some will sell their dreams for small desires
Or lose the race to rats
Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight

Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights...
